Did people even hire a professional photographer anymore? The other day I was talking with a friend who said, “How are you even in business? Everyone can take their own pictures with a phone.”
I am in business, and doing very well thank you!
To me, that is like saying, “How is a brain surgeon in business? Everyone has a butterknife!” OUCH!
Phone cameras continue to improve. And phones have amazing editing apps. But they will never replace a professional photographer.
Most people use their phone cameras for selfies. It is extremely hard contorting to get the perfect curve for a boudoir photo.
The contortion itself stresses the body and the curves are almost never accurate.
Is phone vs. professional camera gear really like butter knife vs. scalpel?
Photography is about light. The phone has a small lens and sensor to capture your image. Professional camera equipment costs thousands of dollars for the camera body and multiple thousands for quality lenses. The sensor is much larger. The glass is much better. The detail will be incredible – IF you know what you are doing.
That is another area professional photographers excel.
They have studied how lighting affects an image. A professional photographer has trained their eye to see how light flows over a form, creating contrasts most people miss. The professional has studied composition and knows how to draw the eye to areas of a photo that are important. Professional photographers also understand how to create artistic feels to their images. That quality naturally attracts attention.
I’m not saying you can’t snap a great selfie at times. But holding your phone behind you, while trying to get a picture of your butt from a flattering angle, lowers the odds.
Hiring a professional photographer can create a lot of nerves for some people. What if you don’t like the photos? What should you expect? How long will it take? What do you have to do? What if you are uncomfortable? What exactly do they do? How do they do it? How much are they going to charge?
A professional photographer will be able to talk you through every step of the process. In fact, they want you to understand everything upfront so there are no surprises. The day of your photoshoot should be stress free and fun! That is how you get amazing images when you hire a professional to do the work!
