Booking a boudoir shoot is out of most women’s comfort zone. That makes them nervous, hesitant and forces some to come up with an excuse of why they are holding back.
But some of the most popular excuses are pretty lame. Sometimes you hear someone say them and your brain wants to shout: Seriously??? Are you being serious?
I’m not here to make fun of anyone. I just want to point out why the popular excuses are actually the best reasons to have a boudoir shoot! They are the reason you need to experience some self-love.
Let’s bust the excuses you may be using to avoid a boudoir shoot!
“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else expects of you. Never excuse yourself.”
―Henry Ward Beecher
1. I want to lose weight first.
It’s great to have health goals, but that shouldn’t stop you. You don’t need to be a certain size to love and appreciate your body.
With a boudoir outfit that flatters your body, the right pose, lighting and angles, you are going to look even more amazing than you already do! Trust me, those few extra pounds don’t pose a problem.
Waiting for a weight goal is like telling yourself you aren’t good enough for a boudoir shoot. That just isn’t true. Celebrate who you are and you’ll gain confidence in your body.
2. I’m too old for a boudoir shoot.
It is ridiculous that society has us believing that the older a man gets, the better he looks, but the older a woman gets, the more she needs cosmetic surgery. THAT ISN’T TRUE!
So you may not be as toned as you were in your 20’s. No one else is either. As we age, our bodies change, but that doesn’t mean we lose our sensuality or desire to be desired.
Besides, your body is only one part of you. Your beauty isn’t limited to the physical, the way you feel determines how beautiful you are. A boudoir session can help you feel better about yourself, so take the chance. Age is only a number, you are still a beautiful woman and I can prove that to you.
If it is important, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.
3. I don’t feel sexy so I couldn’t do it.
Lady, you absolutely could and trust me, you need it! When life gets busy and you can’t devote the proper time to self-care, you can lose touch with your femininity and sensual side.
How do I, a male boudoir photographer know this? Because I talk to a lot of clients who have shared this story over and over in different ways. So this isn’t uncommon, you have a lot of company.
A boudoir shoot gives you the time to rediscover your inner Goddess and free her to be a part of your life again. It is a time to play, laugh, have fun and soon you will realize you are sexy and can do it!
4. I’m not a model, I don’t know how to pose.
Not a problem, that is why you go to a pro. As your boudoir photographer, I can coach you every step of the way. I’ll explain how to stand, sit or lay, where to look, what to do with your hands and help you find the perfect expression. In some cases I’ll even jump into the pose first so you can see exactly what to do. (I look really good in the poses, so try not to compare yourself! 🤣)
“We have more ability than willpower, and it is often an excuse to ourselves that we imagine that things are impossible.”
― François de la Rochefoucauld
5. I’m not photogenic and look awkward in pictures.
That is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you feel that way, chances are when you get in front of the camera, you tense up because you “know” you’ll look bad. Luckily, it isn’t you!
A big part of the equation is the person photographing you. I’m pretty good at getting people to laugh, relax and open up so that they become comfortable. When that happens and you see the results straight from the camera, you will have beaten camera anxiety once and for all.
6. I don’t have anyone to give the photos to …
How about yourself? Boudoir is a gift for you. Sure a lot of clients come in to create a boudoir gift for their partners, but they always say the same thing when they finish:
“The gift for my husband turned out to be a even bigger gift to myself! The gift of self confidence! I can’t thank Thomas enough for that gift! This photo shoot turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done!”
It is a confidence boost. So you don’t have anyone, renew your confidence and it will carry over to new relationships. (If you decide you want them.)
I have done boudoir sessions for women who got divorced and wanted to feel sexy again. Some of them have even used the photos for dating apps. In fact, I’d say a good 50% of my clients are doing these photoshoots for themselves. Why not you?
“If you really want to do it, you do it. There are no excuses.”
— Bruce Nauman
7. I’d be too nervous for a boudoir shoot.
Getting in front of the camera can make anyone nervous. Even more so if you are thinking about wearing lingerie or less for your boudoir session. But rest assured, that is normal. Everyone who comes for their first boudoir shoot is nervous at the start.
That is why we start with hair and makeup, to give you a chance to relax and be pampered. Once you look and feel gorgeous, then start to see the images we create, you’ll be feeling like a supermodel in no time.
8. I don’t own any sexy outfits.
But you do have clothes you feel comfortable and sexy in. You can be sexy in one of your man’s shirts, or sans a partner, one of your own button down shirts or blouses.
You can look sexy in a t-shirt, a sweater or a jacket. You don’t have to pose in sexy lingerie, but if you want to, I have a list of some great shops where you can get some great boudoir outfits. Shopping is always fun – so don’t allow this excuse to stop you either!
9. I’m too busy and don’t have time.
If you can’t take time for yourself, you aren’t going to be able to continue indefinitely. You’ll burn out. Everyone needs to show themselves some compassion by taking breaks for their physical and mental health.
A boudoir shoot is one way to slow down, breathe and rejuvenate both physically and mentally. It is a way to pamper yourself and reconnect your mind and body. You’ll feel better about yourself and be more effective when you resume your schedule.
When I lost all of my excuses, I found all of my results.
10. I’m afraid my partner wouldn’t like my pictures.
