Women’s Self-Care Tips

You don’t need a study to know that most women spend more time caring for others than they do themselves. When was the last time you took some “me time” to rejuvenate your mind and body? Even when you are busy, a 10-15 minute break can offer you a chance to relax and reduce stress. I’ve put together some more women’s self-care tips for 2022.

What Is Self-Care?

Self-care can mean anything from doing something to make yourself happy, to taking care of your physcial health. Overall, self-care is something that improves your health and happiness.

Health Benefits Of Women’s Self-Care

Self-care can result in lower stress levels, and provide better physical fitness. Taking care of yourself can also reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, drepression and other chronic health conditions.

When you are healthy, you have a clearer mind and more energy to do the things you want to do. Plus, you deserve to treat and love yourself better.

In an earlier article: Self-Care Tips For Women : 10 Strategies For The Busy Woman, I outlined ten strategies you should definitely use for better self-care.

The women’s self-care tips below are an addition for 2022.

Take The Time To Do What Makes Your Soul Happy.

1. Treat yourself like you’d treat others

As a boudoir photographer, a lot of women come to my studio to rediscover their confidence. They look in the mirror and see minor imperfections that become road blocks to accepting their body as it is.

Would you tell a friend you hate their stretch marks? That their thighs are too big? That a scar is hideous? Of course not – so why allow your inner voice to criticize you?

People tend to look at the person, not the body and your perceived faults with it. That is one reason boudoir photography helps women overcome this thinking. They get to see how they look through the eyes of others and finally see their true beauty. That is a major boost to their confidence!

2. Start accepting compliments

When someone compliments you, don’t respond with something to deflect the praise. Instead, take the compliment and say “thank you very much!” You will start to feel better about yourself as a result!

3. Focus on success, not failure

As an artist, I have gotten a lot of compliments on my work. The problem is, when someone says something negative, that tends to be the thing I dwell on. One negative can totally wipe out all the positive comments.

I’m told that is human nature, and it took me time to overcome it.

Remember that not everyone will like what you do, but most people don’t even like themselves, so why bother with them?

Everyone has failures, it is a part of life. It is also how we learn and grow. By concentrating on your successful accomplishments, you can put the negatives behind you. That allows you to continue moving forward and maintain a positive attitude.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug
it for a few minutes, including you.”

— Anne Lamott

4. Forget the scale

Most Americans have a scale in their bathroom. A lot of people weigh themselves every day. When weight goes up, their body satisfaction, self-esteem and mood goes down.

If a scale makes you feel worse about yourself, get rid of it. Stop basing your self-worth on a number that changes daily.

5. Let go of your past

We’ve all done things that we regret. No one wants the skeletons to come out of their closet. But the past is the past. Nothing you do now can change what has happened. But you can change your future.

Put an end to the obsessing over what was, and start to concentrate on what is. Start being kinder to yourself and others and you will find your happiness will grow.

6. Celebrate every success

Big or small, when you meet a goal, celebrate! Every win is worthy of praise, so give yourself a pat on the back!

“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.”

— Oprah Winfrey

7. Laugh

Laughter is the best medicine. That saying is around for a reason. Laughter releases endorphins in the brain which make you feel better.

So watch a funny tv show or movie, or search for some funny cartoons, memes or YouTube videos. Give yourself a reason to laugh everyday. It will definitely improve your mood.

8. Ask yourself what you need

Physical and emotional needs impact us in a negative way. Ask yourself how you feel, are you hungry, thirsty, tired, upset? If so, give yourself what your body needs.

9. Get a massage

Massages aren’t just for sore muscles and pain, they are also great for relieving stress. This is one of the best self-love treats you can give yourself.

Feel like you can’t afford a massage? Then try rubbing some lotion or gel on your muscles and then using some cold or warm compresses. That can help you relax too.

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

— Rumi

10. Stop being so serious

Allow yourself to let go and have some fun once and awhile. Don’t be afraid to relax and become playful. When you open your subconscious and stop trying to control everything, it feels magical!

11. Have patience

Everyone seems to want everything now. When it takes too long, it is easy to become discouraged or put yourself down for trying.

Instead, practice some patience and lose the negativity. Keeping a positive mindset and boosting yourself up will help you achieve more.

12. Do something bold

When my clients talk about their boudoir experience, they usually tell me how liberating it was. Posing in lingerie (or less) is outside of most women’s comfort zone. By taking the chance, they discover the nerves they encountered were holding them back.

Most felt they could never look as good in their photos as the other women on my website. They discovered they were wrong. Stepping out of their comfort zone in a supportive, encouraging environment allowed them to grow. They had a better appreciation of their body and a new found confidence.

Your bold move doesn’t have to be boudoir. Maybe for you, it could be a smaller step. Try getting that new hairstyle you’ve been thinking about. Or maybe your bold move is a bigger step, like moving to a new city where you’ve always wanted to live.

Whatever it is, remember that life begins at the end of your comfort zone!

No matter how many, or which ones of these women’s self-care tips for 2022 you follow, take some steps. By giving yourself some extra care, you’ll improve your outlook and life.

Here is to your success!
